Razakar

"Razakar: The Silent Genocide of Hyderabad" is a 2024 Telugu-language historical action drama directed by Yata Satyanarayana. The film depicts the events leading up to the annexation of the princely state of Hyderabad into the Indian Union, focusing on the alleged atrocities committed by the Razakars, a paramilitary force under the Nizam's rule. The cast includes Bobby Simha as Rajireddy, Makarand Deshpande as Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan, and Tej Sapru as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Upon its release on March 15, 2024, the film generated significant controversy. Critics accused it of distorting historical facts, promoting a right-wing Hindutva narrative, and misrepresenting caste dynamics. Some viewed its portrayal of events as an attempt to whitewash the Hyderabad massacres of Muslims.

Political figures also criticized the film. A spokesperson from the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) called for a ban, arguing that it was based on distorted history and could incite communal hatred. Telangana’s Information Technology Minister, KT Rama Rao, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the film to polarize voters and create communal tension in the state.

In summary, while "Razakar" aims to highlight a critical chapter in Hyderabad’s history, it has been met with criticism for its perceived historical inaccuracies and potential to stir communal discord.
